Current Road Work

This page contains information on lane restrictions that may be present during road construction in the City of Rio Rancho. Information will be updated on this page as it becomes available. Motorists traveling within construction zones are urged to drive with caution and observe traffic control devices. Remember to always wear your seat belt and drive the speed limit.
Current Projects:
Click on the link above to view all current projects that are in design, right-of-way acquisition, construction, or those by other Government Agencies that are occurring within Rio Rancho City Limits.

Chessman Drive:

Chessman Drive between Silent Spring Drive and Abrazo will be closed from July 26, 2021 to September 17, 2021 for a continuous 24-hours. The closure will allow for the construction of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, a new storm line connection, extension of water and sewer services.  For any questions, please contact the Development Services Department at 505-891-5005.  Please see the detour while Chessman Drive is closed.

City Hall Re-stucco:
Work on City Hall will be June 2021 - September 2021, typically from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.  Please note that there may be intermittent lane or road closures during work.

King Boulevard:
Work for the King Boulevard project will be November 2020 -  May 2021, typically from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, and weekend and evening hours as needed.  Construction includes curb ramp upgrades, miscellaneous sidewalk and curb and gutter replacements, replacement of the pavement surface, replacement of the multi-use path, and pavement marking. The current striping configuration of the roadway will be maintained. The western limits of this project are Rainbow Blvd, and the eastern limits are Wilpett Rd intersection.
Lincoln Avenue Phase II Project:
Work for the Lincoln Avenue Phase II Project will be April 2020 - Winter 2020, typically from 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m, Monday - Friday, and weekends and evening hours as needed.
Neighborhood Streets Improvement Project:
Work for the Neighborhood Streets Improvement Project will be typically from 7:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, and weekends and evening hours as needed. Please click on the project title for estimate starting dates for crack patching and crack sealing on specific roads.
NM 550 Phase 2 Project:
This project is managed by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). For more information on the project, please click the title above or go to www.keepmoving550.com. Starting in November 2021, the NMDOT will open the Continuous Flow Interchange (CFI) at US 550 and NM 528. Click or tap here for information about what a CFI is and how it is used.
Unser Boulevard Phase 2 Rehabilitation Project
Work for the G.O. Bond Unser Boulevard Rehabilitation Project between Southern Boulevard and City Limits will begin January 2021 and continue through September 2021. Construction will be from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, and weekends and evening hours as needed. Business and residential entrances will be open at all time.  As part of construction, traffic signal changes, such as left turn signals, will occur and become permanent after construction.

    • Left turn lanes from Unser Boulevard Northbound to Southern Boulevard Westbound.
    • Left turn lanes from Unser Boulevard Southbound to Wellspring Avenue Eastbound.

Westside Boulevard:
