Results of the Citizen Survey are in
The City of Rio Rancho has received the results of its 2015 Citizen Survey. Some highlights of the data include 84 percent of respondents rating Rio Rancho as a(n) excellent or good place to live and 83 percent of respondents being pleased with Rio Rancho as a place to raise children.

National Citizen Survey
The City’s survey was conducted as part of The National Citizen Survey (NCS). The NCS is a collaborative effort between the National Research Center, Inc. (NRC) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). The NRC developed the NCS to provide a statistically valid survey of resident opinions about community and services provided by local government.
Measurements & Ratings
For comparison purposes, Rio Rancho’s survey data was measured or benchmarked against the average rating from government jurisdictions in the National Research Center, Inc. (NRC) database where similar questions were asked. Rio Rancho’s survey results were listed as higher than, lower than, or similar to the benchmark and most benchmarks comparisons consisted of more than 100 jurisdictions and their data. For example, 62 percent responded positively that there is affordable quality housing available. This ranked above the benchmark when compared to responses in other communities when the same question was asked.
How the Survey Was Conducted
This past October, 2,200 households were randomly selected from Rio Rancho addresses provided by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Residents were asked to respond to a series of customized survey questions about Rio Rancho and mail back their responses for tabulation. The City conducted this survey to identify community strengths and weaknesses, establish benchmarks for tracking the quality of services provided to residents, and gain useful information for immediate and long-term planning.
Of the 2,200 surveys mailed out, 2,108 were able to be delivered by the USPS. Of that number, 491 surveys were returned to the City for a 23 percent response rate. This rate of return yielded a statistically valid survey of resident opinion that was random and representative of the entire community.
Citizen survey result data is one of many inputs that are being used as part of the City’s ongoing strategic planning.
