The City will reconstruct Southern Boulevard Phase 1 from 630 feet west of Golf Course Road to NM 528. This project improvements will include: a four-lane divided roadway with bicycle lanes, intersection improvements, signing and striping, a multi-use trail and a sidewalk, traffic signals, lighting, drainage, utilities, and landscaping.
Current Traffic Control:
Work for the Southern Boulevard Phase 1 Project from NM 528 to Golf Course Road will be from September 24, 2018 - September 24, 2019. During construction the speed limit will be reduced to 30 mph.
Effective 11/19/18, the construction activities are along the north side of Southern Boulevard. The traffic has been shifted to the south side of the roadway with one eastbound lane, one center lane, and one westbound lane open to traffic.
Effective 12/3/18, the existing traffic signal at 3900 Southern Boulevard will be turned off. This means that traffic traveling on Southern Boulevard at that intersection will be a free flow. Traffic entering Southern Boulevard at that intersection will have a STOP condition.
Notification: Pinehurst Road at Southern Boulevard will be closed to allow for utility installations from December 12 - December 13, 2018. Please follow detour signs.
November 2018: Storm Drain pipe installation began from Pinetree to Country Club Rd. Utilities installation is ongoing.
October 2018: Dry utilities relocated their facilities. The contractor removed existing sidewalk and other obstructions on the north side of roadway. The 8” water line was installed from Pinehurst to 36th Place, and from Pinetree Rd to Country Club Rd.
September 2018: Construction will begin on September 24. Contractor will begin with median removal and temporary detour paving.
July 2018: The award for the construction contract will be presented to the Governing Body on July 25, 2018 for Advice and Consent.
