Rio Rancho Police Department’s first Citizens’ Police Academy class graduated on May 10, 2018. Over 70 residents applied for this first session and 20 were selected to participate. Over the next year, the Police Department held two more Citizens’ Academy sessions.
Participants in each session spent 11 successful weeks getting a look into the inner-workings of the Police Department and learning about day-to-day police work, including: recruitment, traffic safety, police motorcycle operations, DWI awareness, SWAT, and an introduction to the K-9 Unit. Not to mention dinner and lots of laughter was served during each class.
The graduates were invited to take part in the Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Group in order to maintain engagement and communication about the City and the Police Department.
