What’s up with Summer Reading?

Well, this year’s program is a little different as the library wants to help keep the Rio Rancho community healthy and strong. For 2020, summer reading will be virtual. Like all summers, however, it remains……..

  • A FREE program at Rio Rancho Public Libraries.
  • An opportunity to earn prizes by reading books. Reading is a proven way to keep brains sharp.
  • A series of interactive experiences that will introduce new skills and viewpoints.

When does Summer Reading start?

Sign-up online begins June 8th.

What value does Summer Reading have for children?

Having the opportunity to join in the fun events at the library also enables children to check out books so they do not fall down the summer slide. Summer slide is a decline in reading ability and other academic skills that can occur over the summer months when school isn’t in session. Numerous studies show that kids who don’t read during summer vacation actually slip in reading ability by the time autumn rolls around.
