Rio Rancho police officers are some of the best trained law enforcement personnel in the state, which is a testament to why Rio Rancho continues to be recognized as one of the safest cities in New Mexico. RRPD empowers personnel to develop their careers in a variety of areas, including: the Traffic Unit, SWAT, the Criminal Investigations Division, and the K-9 unit. Applying

To apply for a Police Officer position at the City of Rio Rancho, you must:

  • be 21 years of age or older; 
  • be a U.S. citizen; 
  • possess a high school diploma or GED;
  • have no felony convictions. 

If you are applying for a position through the lateral process, RRPD now offers an incentive of up to ten years credit (year for year) to your starting salary. This is for certified officers only.
